About the Initiative
The Media Camp for trans and non-binary people* is an educational and empowering initiative designed to strengthen self-expression, media literacy, and public communication skills among transgender and non-binary individuals in Kyrgyzstan.
In a context where public narratives often exclude or stigmatize LGBTQ+ voices, the camp provides a safe and supportive space for participants to:
- Share their personal experiences
- Develop their authentic voice
- Build confidence in media and digital platforms
- Connect with like-minded community members
Why This Camp Matters
Public discourse in Kyrgyzstan often lacks inclusive and accurate representation of trans* and non-binary people. This initiative aims to change that by focusing on:
- Strengthening self-representation
- Countering misinformation
- Promoting ethical and inclusive storytelling
- Building resilient and informed communities
By equipping participants with tools and knowledge, the camp helps reshape public narratives from within the community itself.
During the program, participants gain both practical media skills and theoretical knowledge.
Core Values of the Camp
- Safety – creating a secure and confidential environment
- Representation – promoting authentic and diverse voices
- Solidarity – strengthening community bonds
- Leadership – empowering participants to become advocates
